What's this blog about?

I teach several courses under the broad topic of "Multicultural Education," prioritizing social justice issues of access, power/privilege, & narrowing the academic achievement gap. I am a person of color and I almost always have a white co-teacher. We include topics, such as: racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, ethnocentrism, deculturalization, transforming curriculum, etc. This is a place where I post information that we teach; lesson plans for activities; and resources we use and/or which are shared with me by my adult students.

Slavery Footprint

Slavery Footprint http://slaveryfootprint.org/survey/#where_do_you_live
If you haven't done you "slavery footprint."  it's pretty interesting.  Side bars comment on where in the world people are enslaved as part of the production of various products we use every day.  This must have been what it felt like for an abolitionist from the North to help free enslaved people from the South, while wearing clothing made in mills powered by cotton grown by the same people they were trying to free!

An interesting link to European history (not really about slavery, but I feel compelled to add it to this post) http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1rzraU/www.worldology.com/Europe/europe_history_lg.htm
